Adult Faith Formation

Current Book Study

Picture

We are excited to announce that our Book Study will be reading and reflecting on a classic read in the Christian Tradition, The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis.

C.S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce is a classic Christian allegorical tale about a bus ride from hell to heaven. An extraordinary meditation upon good and evil, grace and judgment, Lewis’s revolutionary idea in the The Great Divorce is that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside. Using his extraordinary descriptive powers, Lewis’ The Great Divorce will change the way we think about good and evil.

You can click here to order the book on Amazon in a variety of formats.

We will have our first study session at noon on Sunday, September 20th! We will be reflecting on the Preface through Chapter 4 for our first gathering. We hope to see you there!

Fall Bible Study

As we move into Fall, we find ourselves fast approaching a new liturgical year on the First Sunday of Advent (November 29th). On that Sunday, we will transition from Matthew's Gospel (which we have been reading from this year) to Mark's Gospel.

I would love to offer a Scripture Study on Mark's Gospel using a resource called the Threshold Bible Study.

The Threshold Bible Study gospel series is a dynamic, informative, and inspiring way for you to enter into a deeper relationship with God through Scripture. Each of its 30-lesson, gospel-based books will help you explore (through the lectio divina method of reading, study, and reflection) new dimensions of your faith. It will help you discover deeper insights for your life and help open the doors of your heart to the risen Christ.
Threshold Bible Study is a thematic Scripture study program, designed for both personal study and group discussion. The characters, places, and images that you will encounter in each of these topical studies will help you explore new dimensions of your faith and discover deeper insights for your spiritual life.
  • Each study is presented in a workbook format, designed for reading, reflecting, writing, discussing, and praying. The thirty lessons in each study may be used by an individual for daily study over the period of a month, or they may be divided into six lessons per week, providing a group study of six weekly sessions.
  • The commentary that follows each biblical passage launches your reflection about that passage and helps you begin to see the significance of the passage in the context of your contemporary experience.
  • The questions following the commentary challenge you to understand the passage more clearly and apply it to your own life.
  • The prayer starter helps you conclude your study by integrating your learning into your relationship with God.
There are actually two books that cover the Gospel of Mark. The first book suggests six one-hour weekly sessions that we will host on Zoom. I am proposing the following dates to meet over Zoom:

Book 1 (Chapters 1-8)

Tuesday Evenings from 6-7 pm
October 13th
October 20th
October 27th
November 3rd
November 10th
November 17th

Wednesday Mornings from 10-11 am
October 14th
October 21st
October 28th
November 4th
November 11th
November 17th

We would begin book two in January.

If you are interested in purchasing the first book for $13, please click here to email me. Amazon is currently sold out, but I can order from the publisher. The more I order, the cheaper shipping is. You can send in a check to the church with Bible Study in the memo line.
