Community Engagement
Reaching beyond the church walls to engage our neighbors is one of the joys of our common life. Our outreach projects include the Giving Garden, Butterfly Garden, the Prayer Bowl and Little Free Library.

Giving GardenIn 2015, St. Luke’s broke ground on a vegetable garden located on the church property. The garden was funded by donations from parishioners and a Ministry Grant from the Diocese of Milwaukee.
The garden is called the “Giving Garden” because the garden’s organic produce is donated to organizations that provide food to the hungry in our community. Through most of the growing season we were able to provide weekly deliveries to local food pantries and soup kitchens. Interested in participating in the Giving Garden? We always appreciate volunteers. Please contact [email protected] to get involved. Love Grows Here! |
Butterfly GardenIn the spring of 2018, St. Luke’s received a $5,000 grant from the Diocese of Milwaukee to construct a Butterfly Garden next to our Giving Garden.
The purpose of the Butterfly Garden is twofold. First, the Garden is our response to God’s call to be stewards of God’s creation by creating a habitat for Butterflies and Bees, both of which are threatened and vital to the ecosystem. Second, The Butterfly Garden is our intention to continue to connect with our local community, inviting neighborhood members to use it for relaxation, refreshment, and reflection. |
Prayer Bowl & Little Free LibraryIn 2012, St. Luke’s built and installed the Outdoor Prayer Bowl and a Little Free Library.
The Outdoor Prayer Bowl, installed in October 2012, is an extension of St. Luke’s practice of praying for each other throughout the week. Each week, parishioners asks for prayers by putting their written prayers in a bowl, and then people pull prayers out of the bowl to take home and pray for during the week. With the outdoor prayer bowl, we reach out to our neighbors and invite them to put their written prayers in the bowl so that we can add their prayers to ours and pray for them during the week. The Little Free Library, installed in August 2012, partakes in a mission to promote literacy and the love of reading by building a worldwide free book exchange. |
